The Basics

You can get in touch with our team on the Naked app. Look for the '?' button at the bottom of the app. Otherwise, just pop us an email at help@naked.insure and our team will assist you right away.

Your excess is the amount that will come out of your pocket when you make a claim. When you buy a policy you choose your excess for if you should claim. For example, if you have an approved claim of R100,000 and your excess is R5,000, you will pay R5,000 and we will pay R95,000. For more information, check out our blog article: Everything you need to know about your car insurance excess.

If you think anything covered under your Naked policy might be in danger of being damaged or stolen, you can contact us for immediate assistance. For example, if your geyser bursts in the middle of the night and floods your living room, get in touch straight away. Look here for more details about what is covered.

Remember, you can get hold of the emergency services via the Naked app.

If you run out of fuel, lock your keys in the boot or have a flat tyre that leaves you and your car stranded, we are here to help! To see what else qualifies as a roadside emergency please take a look here.

Absolutely. We respect and value your privacy and protecting your information is central to how we've built our systems. For more details on how we will use your information, please see our Privacy Policy.

When you change your excess your premium will change too. The higher your excess, the lower your insurance premium will be, and vice versa.

If you pause your accident cover, your premium will drop. The pro rata amount is then refunded or collected from your bank account. Once you resume your accident cover, your full comprehensive premium will reflect on the app.

Once you have done your first quote with Naked, we cache your credit score. This means that you can do multiple quotes and it won’t affect your credit score.

Our premiums are so low because of technology. Our automated self-service system allows you to get a final quote, buy your policy, and even process some claims without any interference from us.

We use tech and AI rather than call centres or brokers to run and manage your policy. This means fewer costs for us, which translates into lower premiums for you. Not only is this more convenient, it's also more efficient. Our AI and tech allow clients to quote, buy and claim on the Naked web or app.

You can purchase a policy from us via the website or the app. If you buy on the web, you will need to download the app to submit a selfie of your stuff. The app is where you can find other cool things like CoverPause® and our referral programme. It’s also the place where you manage your policy, call for a tow truck or submit a claim.

The short answer: no! In order to prevent surprises when it comes to claiming, we have made sure that there are no additional excesses in any of our products. The excess you choose is the maximum amount you will ever have to pay on a valid claim.

On glass claims, the excess is R0 on claims under R2,000. On claims between R2,000 and R3,000, the excess = claim amount minus R2,000, and when claims are over R3,000, the excess is R1,000.

CoverPause® allows you to pause your accident cover on the Naked app for the days that you are not driving. If you're going away for the weekend and your car will be parked and not driven, your premium drops by up to 50%. But don't worry, it's still covered in case of theft, hail, or any unforeseen accident.

When you need to drive again, remember to jump on the app and click the 'Resume accident cover' button under your car asset card.

When we collect your premium on your chosen debit date, we assume your current level of cover (i.e., comprehensive or paused) will apply for the coming month. Therefore, if your cover is not paused on the collection date, we will collect your full comprehensive premium. If you then use CoverPause® during the month, we will keep a record of the number of days for which you were paused. Depending on how long you pause for (and whether the refund is more than a minimum), the savings due to you will either be paid during the month (when you finish the period of pause) or reduce the premium collected at the start of the next month.

If your cover is paused on the day of your monthly collection, we will collect your discounted premium. When you click “Resume accident cover,” we will immediately collect the full comprehensive premium for the remaining days of the month. If you subsequently activate CoverPause® again, we will keep a record of the number of days for which you are paused, and the savings due to you will either be paid during the month (when you finish the period of pause) or reduce the premium collected at the start of the next month.

Yes, as long as they have permission to use your car and a valid driver's license.

However, if the regular driver on the policy changes, please update it on the app, in the details tab of your asset card to make sure that you're fully covered.

Extras include additional fittings or modifications that you have made to your car. These include both factory-fitted and out-of-factory fitted extras like extra sound equipment, a sun roof, roof rack, tow bar, xenon lights, etc.

To cover your extras you need to specify them on the app at purchase or afterwards. If you're not sure whether you've already informed us about the extra fittings on your car, just hop onto the Naked app and check your car details. You can then add the extras directly on the app if they're not there.

If you told us upfront that your vehicle is an essential part of doing your job, you are covered for business use. However, using it for commercial purposes is not covered by your Naked policy. So using your car as a paying taxi or to deliver on a plumbing job is not covered.

If you use your car for other reasons than what you originally told us, have a quick chat with Rose under the details tab of your car on the Naked app! It only takes two ticks and then you can be sure that you're fully covered.

Check out this blog where we let you know when you might want to consider commercial insurance.

Even if the accident was someone else's fault you will still have to pay your excess. We will try to recover the cost of the repair from the third party and if we are successful, we will refund your excess to you.

The reason for this is that we want to get you back on the road ASAP and when the accident isn't your fault, it usually involves lawyers, court cases, etc., which can make the process a lot longer. Here's a blog that dives into what you should do if an accident wasn't your fault.

Pop onto the app, click on your car card on the home page, then on the “Your details” tab where you will be able to update your address.

If you miss a payment, we will try to debit you again throughout the month. You can also automatically run a debit on your account on the app once you have funds available in your account.

You have 28 days to settle your account – if you don't settle within 28 days your policy will be cancelled.

My Home

You can get in touch with our team on the Naked app. Look for the '?' button at the bottom of the app. Otherwise, just pop us an email at help@naked.insure and our team will assist you right away.

If you think anything covered under your Naked policy might be in danger of being damaged or stolen, you can contact us for immediate assistance. For example, if your geyser bursts in the middle of the night and floods your living room, get in touch straight away. Look here to find out what is covered.

Remember, you can get hold of the emergency services via the Naked app.

You are covered against loss or damage caused directly by:

  • Fire, lightning and explosion;
  • Weather including storms, wind, snow, rain, hail or floods;
  • Leaking or overflowing of water from geysers, tanks, pipes or gutters;
  • Earthquakes and impact with the home by external forces, for example a vehicle;
  • Theft or attempted theft and malicious damage; or
  • Non-moisture related subsidence.
  • Items that have been specified individually, under 'Items over R5 000', are covered for accidental damage and loss as well.

Look at all your possessions inside your home and outbuildings, but not the permanent fixtures that form part of the building. Then determine the value of replacing all of these items as new.

Remember to include your store rooms, outside rooms, garage and your helper's room. Do not include items that do not belong to you or your immediate family who live with you. If you're still unsure, check out our blog that covers how to calculate the replacement value of your home contents.

Determine the cost of rebuilding your home (including its fixtures and fittings) and any outbuildings, with new materials.

Don't forget to include things like paths and driveways constructed of brick, concrete, paving, asphalt or stone (not gravel), swimming pools, walls and/or fences (excluding hedges), gates, gate motors, tennis courts, aerials and satellite dishes, tanks (excluding hot water tanks), pipes, gutters as well as water, sewerage, gas, electricity and telephone connections (public services). But not geysers unless the cover was boosted.

You should also include the cost of demolition, site clearance and any other municipal costs or professional fees that would be needed to restore your property to its original state. This would usually amount to around 20-30% of the value of your home.

Any water damage to your stuff as a result of your geyser overflowing or bursting is covered under your home policy. However, the geyser itself is only covered as part of your owner's policy if you have boosted your geyser cover on the Naked app.

Boosted geyser cover is not available for renewable energy heating systems. However, if your renewable energy equipment (fixed to your house) is included in the total value of your house, it is covered for certain external events listed in our policy wording.

For sure! We can also help you with that. Just pop through the details of your current insurer and your facility number through to help@naked.insure and we will jump right on it.

Yes! Your belongings are covered for their full value (up to the maximum amount you have chosen) when something bad happens at home. But keep in mind this is subject to underinsurance (when the amount you insured all your home contents for is less than their replacement value ). Read more about underinsurance here.

Items that you have specified individually are covered everywhere for their full value (up to the maximum amount you have chosen).

However, if you have not specified an item individually it is covered up to a maximum of R5,000 per item when it is not at home. For an event where multiple items are stolen (when out of your home) you will be covered for up to 20% of your insured home contents value.

All easily portable items that would cost more than R5,000 to replace as new. Otherwise the maximum value they will be covered for is R5,000 per portable item. For example, an expensive vase that was passed down to you as an heirloom.

Portable items are things you can easily take with you when leaving your home. These items include things like:

  • Jewellery;
  • Cell phones;
  • Tablets/iPads;
  • AirPods;
  • Laptops;
  • Bicycles;
  • Bluetooth speakers;
  • Watches;
  • Golf clubs; and
  • Cameras/camera equipment.

At Naked, everything in your home is covered for any weather-related events, theft, and fire. But accidental damage caused by you or anyone living under your roof is not covered, unless the item is specified in “Items over R5,000”.

Yes! However, it depends on your relationship to them:

  • Roommates are unfortunately not covered. They should take out their own policy.
  • Your life partner and family (related to you by marriage, blood or adoption) are covered, so make sure to buy enough cover for their stuff as well.
  • Domestic workers are covered up to R10 000.

Your specified items are covered for their full value while you are moving. The value of all your contents will be limited to 20% of the value of your insured items.

You can definitely insure with Naked if you are still living with your parents. You can buy renter's cover if you own some of the furniture or electronics in the house.

Alternatively you can buy Single Item cover for things like your cell phone, gamebox or laptop.

You can definitely insure with Naked if you do long-term rentals. Unfortunately you cannot insure short-term rentals like Airbnb or if you rent out your property for business.

We will need them at the claims stage, but it's not a specific requirement that you send them to us when you take out a policy. To make your claim process easier, why not pop them through to help@naked.insure after you've taken out your policy.

You, your partner, as well as immediate family members who are financially dependent on you and who also live with you.

If you miss a payment, we will try to debit you again throughout the month. You can also automatically run a debit on your account on the app once you have funds available in your account.

My Single Items

You are covered against theft, loss or accidental damage of your item (up to the value that you specified). As long as the loss was not a result of negligence on your part or normal wear and tear.

It is important that you insure your valuables for what it would cost you to replace them with the same items today. If you find your item is no longer manufactured, choose the closest model up from that. If you're still unsure, check out our blog, Should I insure my cell phone? which explains what replacement value is.

Any item for which you buy Single Item cover (i.e. not part of a home contents policy) is covered for accidental damage.

We will need them at the claims stage, but it's not a specific requirement that you send them to us when you take out a policy. To make your claim process easier, why not pop them through to help@naked.insure after you've taken out your policy.

Claiming

You can claim instantly via the Naked app. Jade, our claims bot, will guide you through the simple process and ask you a few questions. On certain claims, he might approve them instantly.

Remember, if you have an emergency, you can call for help via the Naked app too. Just click on the '!' or '?' button at the bottom of the app.

Naked is an authorised Financial Services Provider and our product is underwritten (guaranteed) by Hollard Insurance Company and a range of international reinsurers. This means that we are able to pay all of your claims even if a big hailstorm hits all the cars on the N1 or fires plague the Western Cape.

That depends on what you are claiming for. Some claims are paid in either cash or vouchers, while others could be replaced with the same or similar item. Alternatively, we will appoint and pay for a repair facility to fix your item.

The more documents and information you submit during the pre-inspection selfie or at the start of the claims process, the quicker the process will be. For some (more expensive) items, we will require a proof of purchase to verify that you owned the item.

For cell phones, for example, you'll need proof of blacklisting (i.e. an ITC number generated by your network provider).

The short answer: no! In order to prevent surprises when it comes to claiming, we have made sure that there are no additional excesses in any of our products. The excess you choose is the maximum amount you will ever have to pay on a valid claim.

How Do I...?

You can get a final insurance quote for your car, home, building and single items in 90 seconds on the Naked app or website. Our friendly bot, Rose, will guide you through the process.

If you're happy with the final price on your quote, simply enter your debit or credit card details into the secure portal. If your policy is set to start immediately, our system will collect the pro rata amount for the remaining days of the month.

If you have chosen for your cover to start on a future date, our system will deduct only R1 to validate your card. We will then collect your premium on your chosen start date and thereafter on a monthly basis, for as long as you are with Naked.

You can instantly make changes to your policy on the Naked app:

  • Update your card details;
  • Change your overnight address;
  • Increase or decrease your excess;
  • Edit your coverage amount;
  • Add/remove car hire;
  • Add car extras;
  • Add individual items;
  • Edit your damage to others limit;
  • Edit cover type; or
  • Pause/resume your accident cover.

Referrals

You can get your unique referral link directly from the Naked app and share it with your friends via social media and/or WhatsApp. Naked pays you for every person who buys cover from us, assuming their first visit to Naked's website or first completed quote was via your unique link. The sale is allocated to you even if the person does not accept the quote immediately, but only at a later stage.

Just go to 'Your Account' on the Naked app, click on the 'Earn Cash' section and share your link with your friends and social media following.

Your referral fee depends on the average value of your referred friend(s) monthly premium during their first three months at Naked (i.e., if they insure multiple cars you qualify for a bigger reward). The payment requires your referred friend to have their Naked policy active for at least three months and the final value of the reward is allocated to your account at the end of their first three full calendar months with us. For more info, take a look here.

Just send us a mail at help@naked.insure. and we will pop that information through to you.

The Naked Difference

The Naked Difference ensures that when claims are lower than expected, we don't benefit – our clients' causes do. We take a flat fee off their premiums and put the rest aside to pay claims. If there are fewer claims than we expect, we donate the excess money to causes chosen by our clients instead of keeping it as profit. Our income doesn't depend on how much we pay out in claims, meaning we can focus on providing great insurance to our clients as well as making a positive difference in their communities.

This keeps us honest and gives you confidence that we will deliver when the chips are down. If you want to know more about the Naked Difference, have a read here.

To select a cause, click on your details on the app (this can be found on the bottom right of the home screen – the emoji looks like a little person). Click on 'Select cause' and pick a cause that resonates with you the most.

You can change the cause that you support once a year in the month of April just contact us on help@naked.insure.
